THE FEATHER: CUSTOM TEXTILE

The inspiration for this wool textile produced by Maharam is from the radial movement of the peacock feather. Drawing on influences from various art pieces and studying the peacock feather, I decided to develop my own art form of the feather that can be used in distinct parts of the space to suggest movement. The pattern of the larger arch form has more of a radial pattern to suggest directionality that will take you from the bed to the exit of the room. The runner form has a smaller pattern that demonstrates the movement through the space of the living room. The various pile heights are used to give more of a texture that gives balance to the materials used to represent nature.
